Empire Day Dress 1798-1806
This pattern was pulled, with permission, from the extant garment in the Wayne County Historical Museum in Richmond, Indiana. The bodice is conservatively cut yet it has the fashionable small back of the period. As a result of the small back the sleeves form the shoulders, creating a very comfortable fit. Drawstrings fasten the center front closed at the neck and waist. Please note that the front lining does not support the bust and therefore the gown should be worn with some sort of corset or stays. The pleated skirt is fullest in the back and flat in the front. A 1-1/2 inch crescent-shaped tuck at center front raises the skirt over the toes. Illustrated instructions for sewing the garment by hand are included, however, this is an easy garment to sew by machine. Sizes (8-14) or (16-20) per pack. (22-26) available upon request! Skeletonsuit 1800-1805 Information from designer Ann-Dorothee Schlüter: After the stiff three piece suits of the 18th century they came as a real relief for little boys: The loose fitting two piece suits consisting of trousers and jacket, buttoned together at the waist. Things stayed put, the shirt was prevented from sneaking out of the breeches, and freedom of movement increased enormously. Attractive details were borrowed from contemporary men’s fashions and uniforms: Rows of shiny buttons or standing collars in contrasting colours enliven the mostly dark-coloured and thus robust garments. Skeleton suits were worn by boys after potty training from around the age of three years until they exchanged them for gentlemen’s clothes at the age of 10 to 12 years, usually when they left home for school. Perfect match: Boys Cloak AM004 in the Rococo Department Size 74-80 cm (Age 9-18 Months) - size up for older boys AM005 EURO 21.00 |
