Tunic &. Cotte

One of the oldest garments in the history of mankind, the Tunic was known under the name of "Cotte". Our package contains patterns for four different versions of Tunic and Cotte, based on extant exmples and written sources and suitable for men and women of all social classes from 900-1300. As a garment for the lower working classes the Cotte continues to be in use well into the early 15th century. Also included are notes on period sewing techniques and instructions to alter the pattern for smaller and larger sizes.

An essential basic of the medieval wardrobe to be used as an outer or undergarment!

Cyclas 1200-1250

This garment - based on extant examples and pictorial referrences - is the antecedent of the sleeveless surcote and worn by men and women. Often it was accompanied by a floor lenght cloak draped in different ways. The package contains two versions of the Cyclas, one for women and one for men. Also included are notes on persiod sewing techniques and instructions for making the cloak and a Barbette with Fillet (female headdress shown in the picture).

Ideally combined with a Cotte (NP603) worn benath the Cyclas.

This ruffled blouse with stand-up collar is the ideal addition to your 18th C. Riding Habit. Fashioned after male habit shirts, the package contains two styles which are based on extant period examples, one from the first and one from the second half of the century.

Lady's Jacket 1750-1780

Front closing jacket with back pleats and winged cuffs. Jackets were very popular with women of all social classes. The commonwoman wore them at work, the middle- and high-class lady for undress wear. Combine with a skirt worn with pocket hoops or hip pads.

Regency Evening Gown

A breathtaking evening gown, based on an extant example in the collection of Hohenlimburg castle in Hagen, Germany . The original dress is said to have belonged to princess Agnes of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, who resided in the castle until 1830. It is made of dark blue silk faille and heavily embroidered in flat silver metal thread. The style of the gown suggests a date about 1805-1815. Details

Picnic Bag 1900

The picnic bag without an inner tin case was an absolute novelty in Germany at the beginning of the 20th Century. It soon became a popular accessory because it offered enough space for all those picnic goods and folds up easy after use. And of course it makes a stylish handbag, too!

This pattern is based on an original of 1903 made from brown cotton with bronze colored silk embroidery.

The pack contains the full size paper pattern for the bag, full size embroidery pattern and detailed instructions.

Laundry Bag

Our laundry bag with cross stitch embellishment is a wonderful redwork project. The embroidery patterns included are so versatile, they can be used for many different projects like table runners, towels or pillow cases.

Contains detailed instructions to make the bag, the cross stitch patterns for the dragon motif and ornaments plus the wave band. The trimmings framing this band were sewn on to the original, but if desired you can embroider them by hand, too. Included are several patterns to choose from.

This pattern is based on an Original of 1902 made from white congress fabric. It was embellished with embroidery of red darning cotton and embroidered trimmings.

Lovey Mary Sun Bonnet

Fabric Bonnets were worn by european as well as overseas women and girls during the second half of the 19th and early 20th Century, providing sun protection on all outdoor activities, be it leisure or work. Suitable for Prairie Bonnets as seen in "Little House on the Prairie".

This pattern is based on an american antique pattern. The name derives from the novel „Lovey Mary“ by Alice Hegan Rice, published in 1903 in the The Century Magazine, so the pattern should be of slightly later date.

Robe de Style 1926

The Robe de Style is charcterized by a slightly tapered, low-waisted bodice and an A-line skirt, a style created by french designer Jeanne Lanvin in 1913. In the 1920s it became a fashion favorite among ladies, who preferred a more feminine look over the masculine silhouette popular at that time. Our model is likewise suitable for day and evening wear. It features kimono sleeves, the waist is tucked to form a false girdle and the skirt is refined by a contrast facing.

Stylish and easy to make is our flat cap. This type of headwear first became fashionable in the last decades of the 19th century and is still a fovourite male accessoire.
