We have compiled information on our patterns and their manufacturers plus sizing charts for easy referrence on this page. Please e-mail us if you've any further questions!
All our patterns are in english language (except for "Fleur de Lyse" patterns which are in english and french language).
Sizes given are american sizes. Please refer to the measurement charts when trying to figure out your size.
When using the patterns we recommend to make a test piece from cheap or scrap fabric first to make sure that the garment fits and to make alterations if necessary.
Concerning skill levels: Most patterns are as easy to use as standard sewing patterns. You should have some sewing experience, though, to make more complex garments like frock coats or 18th C. gowns. There're a lot of period sewing forums on the internet that offer professional help or ask an experienced friend or family memeber for help if you get stuck with a pattern!
Reconstructing History patterns are state of the art in costuming buisness! The popular patterns by american historian Kass McGann are mostly based on originals, very well researched and are printed on sturdy paper. Each pattern pack contains all available sizes. The instructions are extensive and contain pictures, historical notes and fabric suggestions!
Ladies Sizes usually range from: Bust 76cm - 120cm, Waist 57cm - 102cm.
Mens Sizes usually range from: Chest 85cm - 135cm.


The Northern Society of Costume &
Textiles
(NSCT)
The Society has produced a number of Pattern Packs designed to allow a competent dressmaker to make exact replicas of historical costumes from various periods. The patterns are drawn to scale on squared paper so that they may be scaled up or down according to requirements. The patterns include full instructions for the dressmaker plus some historical detail about the costume and a colour photograph of the original garment.
Not recommended for beginners, but wonderful for advanced sewers and if you like the work and books of Janet Arnold.


The american designer Janice P. Ryan specializes in clothing of the 18th
Century. Her patterns are printed on sturdy paper and based on originals
from several well-known collections. They're knwon as very period correct.
Sizes given are american sizes. The measurements in brackets are conversions into centimetres. 1 Inch = 2,5 cm.

Rocking Horse Farm patterns are printed on sturdy paper. They're accompanied by seperate instruction sheets with fabric suggestions and some historical notes.
If sizes are marked: (S-M-L), it means that all of this sizes are in the envelope. E.g. (S-Q) contains all sizes.

Also Wingeo patterns come to you in a large envelope with important information like yardages, variation of the costume, decorations needed, etc. The patterns are printed on stury paper and are accompanied by the sewing instructions on the same sheet.
Patterns are mostly multiszed. If sizes are marked: (30-36), this means usually the bust / chest size. For example if your bust measurement is 90cm you will need a size 36".

Period Impressions is producing patterns mainly for the 19th century and the american civil war. But they carry some wonderful 18th C. patterns, too. All are printed on sturdy patterns, the instructions are placed on the pattern sheets and easy to follow.
Three sizes per pack, unless otherwise noted. For example size S includes the american sizes 6-8-10.

Truly
Victorian is producing patterns for ladies clothing of the 1860s-1900s using
a system that was acutally in use in the 1870s. All patterns are printed
on sturdy paper and come with excellent instructions, plus embellishment
suggestions.
They're using there own sizing system, so please refer to the measurement chart below with already contains the measurements in centimetres!

Patterns by canadian historian Suzanne Gousse are for the demanding reenactor. They're excellently researched, period correct and exclusively edited. All patterns are printed in sturdy paper and accompanied by detailed instructions and additional information (choosing colours, period sewing techniques, information on the garments, etc.). Wonderfully illustrated.
