15th Century Mirror
Pewter reproduction of an original mirror. Mirrors like this one were used by prilgrims to catch the reflection of an holy relic or its shrine and to benefit from its protection. You can also use it as a pocket mirror, wear it around your neck or suspended from your belt. Front and back display the crucifixion with Mary and John at the cross, sun and moon appearing beneath Christ's head (a feature deriving from late antique imperial iconography). 16th Century Pomander
This delicate piece is based on a german extant example dated to 1580 in the collection of Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
