Our set contains 5 full-sized resin knucklebones, which are anatomically correct, molded from actual sheep bones, and a 20-page booklet of dice games dating prior to 1700, including an ancient Greek form of divination with knucklebones. The game is suitable for all eras - from ancient to modern times - and a real joy to play!

Glückshaus

A German dice game that used a betting board and dates back to at least the 1500. The name translates as house of "luck," or "fortune". Most traditional boards were fairly plain, but this one is dressed up a little inspired partially by one of the more elaborate surviving examples. Includes the basic rules, as well as a Yiddish version.

Pope Joan and Poch                                                   NEW!

3 games in one set! Pope Joan is an 18th century ancestor to modern Rummy Royale and Michigan Rummy. It is easy to learn, but fast-moving enough for experienced card players. The name derives from the medieval myth that Pope John VIII was actually a woman. Legend has it the secret got out when the Pope fainted during a procession, and it was discovered that "he" was pregnant. The board is divided into eight "bowls". Players win markers / coins out of the bowls as they play the face cards of the trump suit.

Poster "An Historical Spiral Race Game Published in 1803"

Reprint of a spiral game published by J. Harris, corner of St Paul’s Church Yard & J. Wallis, 16 Ludgate Street (London), December 1st 1803. This game has handwritten rules at the side of the game and uses twelve mother of pearl fish counters (still available today from antique dealers). A lovely wall decoration or put it on a piece of wood or cardboard and use as actual game.
